KENT, Ohio (AP) ? To the campaigns of President Barack Obama and rival Mitt Romney, the electorate looks like a variety of demographic groups. But on the ground, with early voting under way in crucial states like Ohio, the picture is more complicated.
There is the single mom who's a former union shop steward. Now she is a local Republican elected official and is voting for Romney. There's a 43-year old skilled tradesman who voted for a third-party candidate in 2008 but now is backing Obama.
How Romney and Obama target their voters, sway independent ones and get them all to the polls in crucial Ohio might well determine the outcome of next Tuesday's election. In a race this close, not everyone matches the voter profile.
