Can Yeast Infection Cream Really Help Your Hair Grow? ? Beauty ...

The active ingredients in yeast infection medications are usually miconazol nitrate (MN), trioconosol, or clotrimazole. Now, most people are using creams that contain miconazol nitrate (MN) as the active ingredient. I did find some cases on different forums of people using clotrimazole cream for growth, but didn?t find much about the use of trioconosol creams for hair growth. Those that have used the creams are calling it a miracle hair cream. Many have noticed their hair is growing faster. Some people experience an additional 1-2 inches per month as well as thicker hair. There are some cons however. Some people have mentioned that they notice increased shedding of the hair, have experienced headaches, and some scalp irritation.

Why yeast infection creams may work

Now for those of you who have done extensive research on hair loss? using an anti-fungal for hair growth won?t sound all that groundbreaking. As a matter of fact it is often recommended that an anti-fungal shampoo be added to your hair care regimen. Some of the popular recommendations include: Nizoral, Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, and T-Gel. Some dermatologists are even prescribing anti-fungal creams to those experiencing hair loss.

There are two reasons why an anti-fungal cream may help those suffering from hair loss. These creams have anti-fungal properties as well as anti-androgen properties. Let?s start with the anti-fungal properties. Hair loss can be caused by a number of different factors. One of them being fungal infections. One of the most well known fungal infection to cause hair loss is ringworm. Though, some health care practitioners believe that hair loss can also be caused by a chronic yeast (fungus) on the body and scalp also commonly called candida. If you browse through some different candida sites and forums and you?ll see countless people stating that they have noticed a link between their candida infections and hair loss.

Now, when most candida sufferers talk about their yeast problem, they are talking about an overgrowth of the yeast that is normally found in the intestines. It would be hard to imagine that using yeast infection cream on the scalp could somehow help the overgrowth of candida in the gut. No, but it wouldn?t be hard to imagine that if systemic (an all-over chronic infection) candida can cause hair loss, some yeast present on the scalp could certainly contribute to thinning over time. I won?t go into the mechanism of how candida can cause hair loss in this article but I will simply state that candida can infect the hair follicle, cause folliculitis which can contribute to thinning hair.

Some anti-fungals are known to also have anti-androgenic properties. Ketoconazole is one such anti-fungal. It is the active ingredient in a popular anti-dandruff shampoo, Nizoral, which has also gained some popularity in the hair loss world. There is an even a study that suggest that Nizoral might be as effective as minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine, at increasing the thickness of an individual strand of hair.

For now, we can?t be sure whether yeast infection creams also have some anti-androgenic properties. What we do know is that many women (and men) have been using the creams to successfully thicken their hair and speed up growth. Now, keep in mind the side effects that were mentioned earlier.

If you?re intrigued but still not keen on applying yeast infection cream on your scalp, you may be happy to know that some hair loss sufferers are using dandruff shampoos with similar results. Dandruff has been shown to be caused, in part, to Malassezia yeast- a type of fungus. Dandruff shampoos contain different anti-fungal medications that target yeast, decrease dandruff, and as a side effect may also help your hair grow. Before you run out and grab just any dandruff shampoo, read through the below list of dandruff shampoos that may promote growth; some have a better reputation than others.

Head & Shoulders: A study has shown that the active ingredient, zinc pyrithione, in Head & Shoulders can modestly increase hair growth. In the study, the anti-fungal was compared to ketoconazole and piroctone olamine. Those who used the zinc pyrithione shampoo saw a decrease in hair shedding and an increase in the amount of hairs in the growth phase; but the other users in the study had more of an improvement with the ketoconazole and piroctone olamine shampoos. Additionally, many have commented on forums that they?ve had negative reaction to Head & Shoulders. This may or may not be from an allergic reaction to the zinc pyrithione. In any case, there are better options out there and Head & Shoulders would not be my first choice among this list of shampoos.

Nizoral: The active ingredient in Nizoral is ketoconazole. It is probably the most popular of shampoos in this list to be used specifically to help grow hair. Not many people complain of allergic reactions to the shampoo. In the study mentioned above, the ketoconazole shampoo outperformed the zinc pyrithione shampoo in decreasing the amount of shedding hair. If you have experienced hair loss, I would recommend adding Nizoral to your regimen to help slow any further shedding.

Selsun Blue: The active ingredient in this shampoo is zinc pyrithione, which we?ve already covered, and selenium sulfide. Selenium sulfide has been documented to cause hair loss. Obviously, this shampoo is not one that I would recommend trying if you are experiencing hair loss.

T-Gel Shampoo ?Greasy Hair: This particular version of the shampoo contains piroctone olamine which has been shown to be even more effective than ketoconazole in increasing hair shaft diameter and about as effective in reducing hair shedding. Many users have also said that this shampoo is less drying than Nizoral. I would also recommend trying T-Gel, but only the version with piroctone olamine as the active ingredient. Other versions of the T-Gel shampoo have different active ingredients.

A Natural Alternative

Some of you may be more interested in a ?natural? product. There are many herbs and oils that have anti-fungal properties. One natural alternative would be to apply emu oil to the scalp 2 to 3 times per week. Emu oil is a natural anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antibacterial.

So yes, you can use yeast infection and jock itch cream to help grow your hair. If you are hesitant, try Nizoral or T-Gel, they both can work. If you are looking for something natural, emu oil is a good option.

Red Sox beat up Verlander, Tigers

Associated Press Sports

updated 11:34 p.m. ET May 29, 2012

BOSTON (AP) - Justin Verlander felt he pitched well. The Boston Red Sox just hit a bit better.

Verlander, the reigning American League MVP and Cy Young award winner, was tagged for 10 hits in Detroit's 6-3 loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday night.

Verlander had his usual velocity, but said he hurt himself by falling behind 3-1 in the count against Daniel Nava with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth.

Detroit was trailing 1-0 before Verlander threw a 100-mph fastball that Nava drove for a double.

"Mostly I'm disappointed about not being able to get ahead of him," Verlander said. "I think if I'm ahead in that situation, he's not able to get to the fastball in that situation."

Verlander (5-3) lasted just six innings, scattering 10 hits to eight different players in dropping a second consecutive start for the first time since April 2011.

"He just wasn't himself, he just wasn't sharp. That happens," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "We give them credit. They hit him so you give them credit. Tip your hat to them."

Less than two weeks after nearly throwing his third career no-hitter, Verlander walked one and struck out seven, watching his ERA rise from 2.15 - which led the league entering the day - to 2.55.

"I can't say I pitched bad, but it was a battle because of the way that they were putting together at-bats against me," he said. "There was a lot of guys on and a lot of high intensity pitches."

The Red Sox improved to 25-24, finally achieving a winning record after going 0-5 in games that could have put them above .500. Boston fans had to wait a while to enjoy the moment because of a 38-minute rain delay with one out in the bottom of the eighth.

Daniel Bard (5-5) pitched 5 1-3 innings for Boston, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Boston used four relievers before Alfredo Aceves came in after the rain delay and finished the eighth, then held the Tigers scoreless in the ninth for his 12th save.

Jhonny Peralta and Prince Fielder hit solo homers for the Tigers, who fell to 0-2 in the four-game series.

Verlander hadn't allowed 10 hits in a game since September 2010. Boston got four alone in a three-run fourth inning. Kevin Youkilis, Mike Aviles and Scott Podsednik all singled to load the bases before Nava put Boston up 4-0 with a two-out double. Verlander hit 100 MPH repeatedly in the at-bat before Nava came through with a full count, lining a shot down the left-field line.

Verlander came in with 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings against Boston, but the streak ended in the second when Ortiz led off with a double off the Green Monster and scored on a fielder's choice by Mike Aviles, who avoided a double play by beating out Peralta's throw.

Peralta hit a solo homer in the fifth for the Tigers' first run and Fielder added a solo shot in the sixth.

Ortiz hit his second double of the game in the fifth, bringing Adrian Gonzalez all the way in from first for a 5-1 lead. Ortiz tried to push it for a triple and was easily thrown out at third.

Ortiz atoned for the base-running mistake with a homer to left in the seventh.

Notes: Boston 2B Dustin Pedroia did not play Tuesday after jamming his right thumb in Monday's win over the Tigers. Manager Bobby Valentine said Pedroia aggravated a pre-existing injury to his thumb and underwent an MRI but the results were not yet available ... Verlander pitched at least six innings for the 53rd straight start, dating to Aug. 22, 2010. It marks the longest such streak by a pitcher since Steve Carlton's 69-game run from 1979-82. ... This was the longest the Red Sox took to go above .500 since 1996, when Boston finally improved to 66-65 on Aug. 25. ... Red Sox OF Carl Crawford said he is about 10 days away from starting to throw as he continues his rehab from a sore left elbow.

Internet Guru Robert Scoble Says Twitter Feels A Lot Like A Ghost Town

Google+ isn't getting a lot of fair coverage in the press, says Internet guru Robert Scoble.

While a lot of the tech press has said Google+ is a "ghost town," Scoble says it's actually Twitter's started to feel more like a ghost town.

"Seriously, I know Twitter's not a ghost town, but it sure feels like that because of the usage model there," Scoble said in a post on Google+. "As it has turned into more of an "information utility" and less of a community it feels more and more empty."

Since July of last year, he's gone from 0 to 1.5 million followers on Google Plus, and 13,000 to 261,000 followers on Facebook. But he's only gone from 240,000 followers to 260,000 followers on Twitter.

He said that's because there aren't any noise controls on Twitter, so users are getting overloaded and aren't following more people.

Here are some of the highlights of his argument over on Google+:

So, what's the new social media ghost town? I say it's Twitter. Follower growth has NOT kept up there with the other services, which is telling me something.?

1. That while number of tweets have gone up, people are getting overloaded so they aren't following more people. Why is that? Because there isn't any noise controls on Twitter (Facebook's feed, on my screens, is a LOT more useful than Twitter's feeds).

2. I'm on Google+'s suggested user list, which is gifting me a huge number of followers. But I got up to 230,000 without ever being on that list here. Lots of people are signing up and at least a few ARE sticking around here.

3. Over on Facebook there are ways to get spread around more, and juice its suggested user feature (this is one thing Facebook does better than Twitter or Google+ since this list is algorithmic and doesn't show a single same list to every user), which gets you more users.

4. Facebook juices its subscriber numbers through lists. If you get put on a list with, say, 30,000 followers, all those followers will be added to your follower count.

Children's Health & Fitness ? Battling Childhood Obesity ? With ...

May 27th, 2012 by Len Saunders

From Fox 6 TV?..

At first glance, one might think kids at Cherry Creek Elementary School in Chocolay Township were just playing around, but it turns out they may have been learning a value lesson.

Last week, kids in Chocolay Township and across the nation participated in Project ACES, or All Children Exercise Simultaneously, and the goal is simple: keep kids moving and having fun.

?We definitely have a trend of more TV time, more computer time, just more screen time in general, and I think that if we can incorporate more ways to reduce the sitting behavior, the better,? said Lanae Joubert, a physical trainer and Project ACES coordinator for Cherry Creek.

According to the Center for Disease Control, childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. This growing trend leaves adolescents more susceptible in developing illnesses like heart disease and diabetes when they get older.

What's an American Indian? Warren case stirs query

Native Americans have a high rate of intermarriage with other groups. Many are not identifiable by appearance, which has made it possible for almost anyone to assume a Native persona. That seems to have been the case with US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.

What, exactly, makes someone American Indian? Even Indians themselves don't agree as they debate the case of Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, whose disputed claim of Native American identity is shining a rare spotlight on the malleable nature of Indian heritage and the long history of murky claims to such ancestry.

Warren, a Harvard Law School professor and Democrat who is running in Massachusetts against Republican incumbent Sen. Scott Brown, was listed as Native American in several law school directories. Warren has said that her "family lore" described Indian ancestors, and the New England Genealogy Association said it found indications ? but not proof ? that Warren had a Cherokee great-great-great grandmother, which would make her 1/32 Indian.

"I'm proud of my heritage," Warren said Thursday. Asked how she knew it included Native Americans, she replied, "Because my mother told me so."

Her opponents question whether Warren chose this heritage to gain advantages available to Indians and other underrepresented groups in academia.

"Warren has zero evidence that she is at all Native American," said Brown's campaign manager, Jim Barnett. The genealogy association acknowledges that it found only secondary references to Cherokee family members, not primary sources such as marriage, birth or census records.

Among Native Americans, the varying opinions demonstrate that Indian identity is subjective even among Indians themselves.

When David Eugene Wilkins first saw Warren interviewed during her nomination to a federal post, he was smitten by her intelligence and politics. But when he heard about her claims of Indian ancestry, "I shook my head and said, 'Oh no.'"

"For us it was always about allegiance rather than biology or ancestry," said Wilkins, an enrolled member of the Lumbee tribe and professor of American Indian studies at the University of Minnesota.

"It's where you place your political, cultural, emotional allegiance. She lived her entire life and never had any association whatsoever with any community. So something doesn't wash for me," Wilkins said.

But David Treuer, an award-winning writer and Ojibwe Indian from Leech Lake Reservation in Minnesota, said there is a difference between Indian identity and ancestry ? you can have one without the other.

"An Indian identity is something someone claims for oneself; it is a matter of choice," Treuer wrote in a Washington Post essay titled, "Elizabeth Warren says she's Native American. So she is."

Adoption of mHealth: Can we see the Forest through the Trees ...

In previous posts, I have highlighted many drivers and stakeholders (patient advocates, healthcare providers, insurers, hospitals, Pharma, and others) as key to the success of the adoption of digital health technologies (.? There was a recently proposed amendment to the MDUFA (Medical Device User Fee Act) which places a moratorium on the publication of the FDA?s guidance on the use of mobile medical apps. The mHealth coalition responded with a letter to Senator Harkin, the Chairman of the Committee on Health, Education, Welfare, and Pensions, urging the publication of the guidance document.? The bill was passed by the Senate and is expected to pass the House vote. I have expressed my reasons for which I believe that medical apps require FDA oversight. Does the FDA think this is going to fix itself or the industry just go away?

I believe that this action will result in mHealth technologies gaining more footing via consumer tools and apps than on patient, transition, and outpatient monitoring and management ones.? While the engagement of people in wellness is not a bad thing, the biggest impact of these technologies is the potential for improvement of healthcare delivery. ?Development of creative innovation will be slowed and driven overseas. It leaves hospitals and providers with possibly less secure ways of utilizing apps, while paradoxically having the government overregulate the industry until guidelines are furnished.

So the forest is the vision of how mHealth technology and other digital technologies can disrupt in a meaningful way the healthcare system.? The trees are the regulatory, reimbursement, and some legal/security issues.? Politicians need the help of clinicians and not just telecom companies and others in the industry to convey how important this issue is.? They respond to personal stories which hit home and remind them that they too are patients and caregivers. Burying heads in the sand is not going to cut it regarding this issue. Rulings and guidelines need to be rolled out. Politics and amendments should have no place in such important issues regarding the FDA.

Ah, the Obama economy. Sort of like the Carter economy but without that horrific toothy grin to entertain us.

But as a young man during the Carter years, I can attest to the fact that it was virtually impossible to find a decent job. Even McDonald's was hiring adults desperate for a paycheck to feed their families.

For teenagers in Washington, D.C. and California, finding a job just got a lot harder:

As summer break approaches and school seasons conclude, teens in California will have a more difficult time finding a job than their demographic counterparts in every other state, according to Census Bureau data released by the Employment Policies Institute.

With 36.2 percent of its teens unable to find employment, California leads all other states in teen unemployment - only the District of Columbia, with its 51.7 percent teen unemployment rate, surpasses the Golden State.

Overall, teen unemployment rose in 17 states and Washington, D.C., between April 2011 and April 2012, and fell in 32 states.

Nationally, the teen unemployment rate stands at 24.9 percent, and has averaged above 20 percent for over 40 months. The number of employed teens fell by 14,000 from March to April 2012.

"Although the jobs outlook has improved slightly for summer 2012, teens searching for summer employment are still faced with more competition and less opportunity than past generations," said Michael Saltsman, research fellow at the EPI, in a statement.

When the analysis is broadened to include discouraged teens that have stopped actively looking for work but would still like a job, nearly every state experiences a jump in their teen unemployment rates, according to EPI analysis.

They should look in Annapolis, MD....we have tons of restaurants and various others places needing people to work desperately. I think the kids could work in Annapolis even living in DC because it is only 30 minutes away.

I live in Arlington and watch the local Washington DC morning news continually. Almost every single day, there?s the reminder of punk kids robbing folks off the METRO or on the street. So far, no one has openly beaten the punks or retaliated in some fashion. Two weeks ago....some punk stole a I-Phone, and a crowd literally chased the kid down and waited for the cops to take over.

The problem is that the kids have given up on some opportunities in life....they don?t see much hope for a job unless it?s a pure-hand-out via their local city council guy.

I?ve never put much stock in these statistics involving ?un-employed teens? or, ?children living in poverty?.
In many respects, these stories are usually used to smear a Republican administration. For the most part though, a teens major area of responsibility is SCHOOL. A summer job is fine, when it doesn?t burden the parents. Further, a ?Child living in poverty? probably doesn?t even know it...

The anecdotal evidence is that many jobs in places such as fast food, which years ago were filled by teens/young adults, are now being done by people who were not born in this country.

The anectodal evidence is also that jobs such as housekeeping or domestic help, which in years past were frequently held by black women, are now being done by people who were not born in this country.

Lots of places such as 7-11 have people working there who were not born in this country.

Have we imported a class of people to do lower level jobs, the jobs which at one time provided work to people with less education, or less motivation, or however you want to describe the status of people?

Some say that people?s attitudes about work and certain jobs have changed. When is the last time you saw a black woman working as a maid? Years ago, many maids or domestic helpers were black women. Some say that today?s young people feel that certain jobs are beneath them. Any honest job should be something that people with limited or no education would be happy to have, but, it seems that nowadays, some people feel that they shouldn?t be expected to do certain lower level jobs.

The sad part is, that certain people wouldn?t have to be doing such jobs forever. There is still upward mobility in the work force, for those who choose to participate in the work force. But due to these modern times, a feeling that illegals should do these jobs, a feeling that these jobs don?t pay enough to enable them to live in the status to which they are accustomed, or whatever else, many young people eschew certain jobs, which past generations of young people were happy to do.

'Small' IT Market Attracts Big Companies | bryanpalmernovogen.com

The small-business help desk is going corporate, with initiatives from companies like Apple Inc.

bringing new competition to independent consultants who typically handle the IT needs of U.S. start-ups and small companies.

The move comes as the use of external IT support among small businesses is exploding. Information-technology services can include setting up new computers, upgrading software, protecting against malware and troubleshooting.

U.S. businesses with less than 500 employees spent roughly $23.5 billion on IT services last year, and are projected to spend $27.2 billion on IT services by 2015, according to estimates by research firm IDC.

Best Buy Co.

sees ?significant, untapped potential? in small business IT, a company spokeswoman said. The national retail chain in December bought Mindshift Technologies Inc., a Waltham, Mass., provider of IT services to more than 5,400 small and midsize businesses nationwide.

SBIT

SBIT

Channing Johnson for The Wall Street Journal

Software engineers Guto DaSilva, left, and Srini Vasan at OnForce?s headquarters in Lexington, Mass. OnForce teamed up with Apple in June.

Apple in June formed a partnership with OnForce Services Inc., an eight-year-old IT services network based in Lexington, Mass., to provide small businesses with IT help on their own premises.

?Everyone?s talking small business right now. There?s a huge opportunity,? says Peter Cannone, chief executive of OnForce.

Apple stores already feature a ?Genius Bar,? where customers have their products serviced. A year ago Apple introduced ?JointVenture,? a program providing small businesses with limited tech support offered by Apple employees in Apple stores and over the phone. That program starts at $499 a year for those who buy a new Mac.

But in-store support isn?t ideal for many business owners who may need to carry multiple computers or devices from their office into an Apple store.

While many small businesses and start-ups are still reluctant to hire new employees, spending on technology and IT services is seen generally as smart if it can help a company operate more efficiently, or make it possible for an owner who travels to manage his or her business from a remote location.

?I don?t have an IT department,? says Kevin Kay, owner of an Easley, S.C., health-care company with just 53 employees. ?It?s not a luxury I can afford.?

Mr. Kay, who says he has been cautious in his overall spending in recent years due to the economy, sought Apple?s help in updating and transferring accounting software to three new iMac computers from older personal computers earlier this month.

Apple referred him to OnForce, which then dispatched a technician from its roster of more than 100,000 partners?independent IT-service providers nationwide who pay OnForce a referral fee of 10% of sales?to Mr. Kay?s business. Mr. Kay paid the technician $1,050, or $150 an hour, for seven hours of labor, an amount he describes as ?costly but necessary.? That?s on top of the $5,600 he shelled out for computers, iPads, software and data backup.

Thanks to the advent of cloud computing, the options now available to small businesses go well beyond what was typical for a help desk just a few years ago. They include analytics, software customization, disaster recovery and video conferencing, for instance. Such options and others only recently became feasible to dispense on a widespread scale?and at prices the average small business can afford.

Spending on IT services by U.S. companies of all sizes has been growing at a rate of about 3.2% annually over the past five years, and reached $304 billion last year. That total is about 55% more than their spending on computer hardware and software sales combined, according to research firm Gartner Inc.

About 71% of small and midsize U.S. companies said they planned to increase their IT budgets by an average of 5.2% over the next 12 months, according to a July survey of 602 companies with less than 500 employees by the Computing Technology Industry Association, a trade group.

The small-business IT market is alluring to many in part because no single player dominates it, even though some large corporations have been in the space for longer than Apple and Best Buy, including International Business Machines Corp., Staples Inc.

and AT&T Inc.

PlumChoice Inc., a midsize IT-services firm in Billerica, Mass., has signed partnerships with five large corporations in recent years to provide help-desk support to those outfits? small-business customers. ?When things don?t work, you can?t even run your business in many cases,? says Ted Werth, its founder.

There are roughly 300,000 independent IT consultants, and another 114,000 small IT companies, according to the trade group. Some independent consultants believe they can thrive despite potentially increased competition for mom-and-pop shops and other small-business clients.

?A college kid offers better pricing than I do but I?m able to give my clients the answers they need in ways they can understand,? says Allan Sabo, an IT consultant in Flushing, N.Y., who charges $100 an hour, or $500 a month, for service for clients who have one server and as many as five workstations.

Small-business owners ?want to work with local people,? says Jason Comstock, an independent consultant in Marysville, Ohio, who says he visits his clients on site at least once a month even though he can assist them remotely with many IT issues. ?They want to know who you are, where you go to church, are you a member of the local chamber of commerce, all those things. They?re really about the relationship.?

Best Buy so far isn?t planning to carve out dedicated space in its stores for Mindshift, as it currently does for Geek Squad, its tech-support service for consumers.

Rather, Mindshift will serve the businesses in most cases via remote access to a customer?s computer or over the phone.

?We can do 99% of the work remotely,? says Paul Chisholm, Mindshift CEO. ?More and more customers want to go to the cloud, and the independents and small regional providers don?t have the financial capital and expertise to develop scalable cloud offerings.?

Keeping a team of IT professionals can be too costly for a start-up.

?The minute you bring them in, unless you spend a tremendous amount on training and keeping them up to date, their skills deteriorate,? says Rick Rodgers, co-founder of Tesaro Inc.

The two-year-old biopharmaceutical company, based in Waltham, Mass., paid Mindshift about $40,000 for all of its 2011 IT needs.

MLB Game Recaps: Nelson Cruz leads Texas Rangers over Toronto Blue Jays

Home ? Game Recaps ? MLB Game Recaps: Nelson Cruz leads Texas Rangers over Toronto Blue Jays

Texas Rangers 14, Toronto Blue Jays 3

Led by a monster 8-RBI performance from slugger Nelson Cruz, the Texas Rangers blew out the Toronto Blue Jays 14-3. Both teams are playing well this season, with the Rangers still at the top of our site?s power rankings. Adrian Beltre, Michael Young, and Mitch Moreland all had three hits each to supplement Cruz?s four-hit ballgame. Elvis Andrus finished with three walks, Cruz homered, and Josh Hamilton hit a shot in the second for his 19th of the year. Rangers starter Derek Holland shut down the Jays over 7.1 innings with five hits, two runs, and a walk allowed to go with nine strikeouts. Brandon Morrow gave up six earned runs, five hits, and three walks and got only two hitters out.

Orioles 8, Royals 2

Adam Jones celebrated his new deal by driving in two runs, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Royals, who actually have a winning record on the road. This victory is the O?s 29th of the year, and Nick Markakis led the way with three hits (two doubles) and has a .350 OBP this season. Jeff Francoeur made life difficult for the O?s with three hits (a homer and a double). Jason Hammel continues to pitch well this season and is doing as well as he did a couple of years ago (2.78 ERA). The 6-1 starter tossed six scoreless innings of five-hit ball with one walk allowed and seven K?s.

Pirates 1, Cubs 0

A.J. Burnett and the bullpen combined to shut down one of the three worst teams in baseball. The offseason trade acquisition pitched 5.1 scoreless frames ?and picked up six strikeouts.

Rays 7, Red Sox 4

Matt Joyce drove in four runs for the visitors, and it came from a Grand Slam in the third inning to drive in Carlos Pena, B.J. Upton, and Ben Zobrist. Alex Cobb got the win, and Fernando Rodney saved his 15th game of the season after a perfect ninth.

Rockies 6, Reds 3

Todd Helton had a homer, two hits, and three RBIs, and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki added three hits to help the Colorado Rockies defeat the Cincinnati Reds and chase Johnny Cueto out of the game before he finished five innings. Helton made it a 2-0 ballgame in the second after homering for the fifth time this year, and the Rockies never looked back. Rafael Betancourt has a 2.65 ERA this season, and he picked up his eighth save after downing the Reds in a perfect ninth.

Mets 6, Padres 1

Dillon Gee had no trouble shutting down the Padres offense in seven innings of one-run ball. He allowed just four hits and three walks, and Gee also struck out nine. The Mets received two steaks from Ike Davis in an encouraging performance, and Lucas Duda homered for the home team.

Marlins 7, Giants 6

In the sixth inning, Chris Coghlan hit a three-run shot for his first home run of the season to give the Miami Marlins a crucial and somewhat commanding 6-3 lead after the game was tied. Heath Bell nearly lost the game, but Tim Lincecum?s awful start was not going to go unpunished.

Nationals 7, Braves 4

In a battle between the NL East powers, the Washington Nationals emerged victorious behind star third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. Both of his hits were doubles, and he also drove in three runs to help Chien-Ming Wang notch a win in relief.

White Sox 9, Indians 3

A.J. Pierzynski tripled and scored three runs, and he also homered in the White Sox big win over the division leaders. Jeanmar Gomez had a game to forget, and Adam Dunn knocked his 15th HR out of the park while facing Gomez in the first inning.

Tigers 10, Twins 6

Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, and Brennan Boesch hit in the 4th, 5th, and 6th slots in the Detroit Tigers line-up. All three of them managed to get three hits apiece, with Boesch leading the way with two doubles. The Twins received three hits from lead-off hitter Denard Span, who has a .362 OBP this season, but his two doubles weren?t enough to defeat the Tigers high-powered offense. Alex Avila had two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Tigers on the run-producing side of things.

Phillies 5, Cardinals 3

The Philadelphia Phillies took down the St. Louis Cardinals after ten innings of action-packed baseball, with Hunter Pence?s extra-innings shot to right being the game-winning hit in this one. Jonathan Papelbon has now saved 14 games this year. The Cards are dealing with the loss of Lance Berkman for eight to ten weeks, and Allen Craig is still out, Matt Adams has been doing work over at first and notched three hits in this one.

Brewers 7, Diamondbacks 1

Milwaukee Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo outdueled D?Backs starter Ian Kennedy, as Gallardo allowed just five hits and a run in 7.1 innings. Corey Hart homered for the tenth time this season, and Brewers superstar slugger Ryan Braun blasted his 13th of the year off of Kennedy in the fourth. For the Diamondbacks, Jason Kubel got on base a game-high four times with two hits and two walks (only player on the team to get on base more than once). His homer in the fourth was his fourth of the season and came off of Gallardo for the team?s sole run.

Yankees 6, Athletics 3

Josh Reddick hit another home run for the A?s, but the home team could not overcome a decent start from Ivan Nova in a 6-3 win for the New York Yankees. Rafael Soriano allowed a hit and struck out two for his fourth save of the season, and the Yankees hit three home runs in this game. Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher not only homered, but they also had a double each.

Angels 6, Mariners 4

In this game between sub-.500 AL West clubs, the Los Angeles Angels won behind a three-run shot from Albert Pujols in the sixth off of Blake Beaven to open up the scoring. Beaven thoroughly outpitched Ervin Santana, and the Angels were down 4-0 before Pujols?s homer. Afterwards, they scored three runs in the ninth and the bullpen shut down the M?s in the win. After tying up the game on a fielder?s choice at 4-4, the Angels received a walk-off, two-RBI single from Howie Kendrick to score Alberto Callaspo and Erick Aybar, who were in on the last play. Aybar got on base, while Callaspo made it to third due to a costly error from Brandon League (0-4, 4.43 ERA, fourth blown save of the year). A personal favorite of mine, Scott Downs notched his fourth save of the year and has not allowed an earned run yet.

Astros 3, Dodgers 1

Lucas Harrell and Clayton Kershaw were both about even in this pitching duel, but Harrell was slightly better and thus emerged victorious. The Astros starter did not strike anyone out, but he only allowed a run and five hits in 7.1 strong innings. Kershaw, meanwhile, allowed two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts in seven innings. Jose Altuve doubled twice for Houston, and J.D. Martinez homered. Dodgers No. 3 hitter Bobby Abreu got on base four times with a single and three walks.
