Equinixs New Business Data Center Suites to Fall Between Retail ...

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Colocation provider Equinix (www.equinix.com) will soon introduce a new set of data center services that offer enclosed data center suites for customers that are looking for larger footprints, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

This is certainly an interesting strategic move for Equinix, a company that has largely sold individual data center space in the form of cabinets and cages up until now.

But according to the company, the new Business Suites is intended to exist halfway between the retail and wholesale markets instead of a full-on, strategic decision to take on competing wholesale data center providers like Digital Realty, DuPont Fabros and CoreSite.

how do I survive a performane improvement plan?

Posted by admin | Home Improvement Tips | Posted on August 30th, 2011

Your Open QuestionShow me another ?
How to survive a Performance Improvement plan?
I started a new job 5 months ago (after being made redundant, so it wasn?t my choice to change jobs) and ended up in the job from HELL. A very busy office, huge high pressured workload, foul tempered, bitter, angry team members, total lack of training, bad tempered boss. I couldn?t walk out, I have a family and a mortgage.
I have worked very, very hard to get up to speed with a total lack of trainig and support, and have made it, but manager started employee incapabilty procedures when I?d just been in the job a few weeks. We are now at the 2nd formal stage. I make sure I meet all targets (some are ridiculous and it involves bringing a lot of work home) But manger refused to record when I reach targets and makes excuses. The Dept may go out to tender, in which case, half of the team will need to go, and I?ll be first as I have only been there a short while. Im looking for another job but how on earth do I survive this? (Ive consulted HR who said file a grievance, which I did, the upshot of that was a discussion with the manager, all to no avail). The anxiety I now feel going into work every day is beyond what I can manage. Any good tips on how to survive? Sometimes the manager is friendly and nice and I think I?m imagining this! She is always very supportive and helpful to two other team members, but used to pick on one relentlessly when I first arrived.

Chosen Answer:

You need to stand back and reflect honestly whether you are capable of doing the job. If you are you probably have the opportuntiy for a second stage grievance at a level above your immediate manager. You should point out that you feel stressed and harrassed as a result of the way you are expected to work. Try and get a move out of the department as a result of your grievance

Science-Art Scumble #23

Welcome to this week?s Science-art Scumble!

Evicted ? Heather Ward

Before this year?s headline-making hurricane and earthquake, there have been some of the worst New Mexico wildfires in that state?s history. ?Heather Ward, one of my favourite nature and wildlife artists documented her own flight and feelings of family by creating the beautiful and ominous drawing above. It?s my selected image of the Scumble.
You can find ?more of Heather?s work in the following places:
Heather Ward Wildlife Art ? Portfolio

Heather Ward on Fine Art America (prints of the art above are on sale)

And now for this week?s links!

What are some of the most important, iconic and/or beautiful scientific images? ? Quora. You can add your own! ?Pity there aren?t more illustrations. [Hat tip to Jerry Coyne for the link!]

The Tempests of Ivan Aivasovsky ? lines and colors. More bad weather.

Thrifty Thursday: Insect Wings on a Cheap Scanner ? Compound Eye.

Depth Perception ? xkcd. I love it when Monroe busts out his art skillz as a backdrop for his?expressive?stick people to move around in.

Future Foundation Mr. Fantastic ? StanlyDan. ?Fanart of Marvel Comic?s thinking superhero?s superhero. Cute!

Shoehorning Science into Art - John Hawks Weblog. Excellent point and I couldn?t agree more.

On the Origin of Species ? gremz/Alan Kennedy. ?Stunning retro-style image with muted colours. Would make an awesome book cover.

Greg Dunn?s Golden Neurons ? Bioephemera

Binary Brain ? Artologica/Michele Banks

Femke Hiemstra ? lines and colors. ?Amazing colours and personality in these illustrated animals.

Philosofossilising: Scientific Accuracy In Art ? Craig Dylke, Art Evolved. what starts out as a brief post turns into a discussion about dinosaur feathers, cgi budgets and art technique invading science imagery. ?Read those comments! And it continues here!

Charles Knight Neandertals ? John Hawks Weblog.

The Fish Stands for Surrealism ? The Flying Trilobite.

(no title) ? Saturday morning Breakfast Cereal. One of my favourite webcomics does the ol? ?who?s on first?routine, with a chemistry flavour.

Scumble: ??A painting technique in which semi-opaque or thin opaque colors are loosely brushed over an underpainted area so that patches of the color beneath show through.?
From? The Artist?s Handbook, by Ray Smith.

This began as a?series of posts on my personal blog, The Flying Trilobite, as a way to brush highlights over the tremendous amount of science-based art that?s out there. I can?t begin to cover it all, so here?s a scumble over some recent posts that I found interesting, provocative, or otherwise caught my eye from the? Science Artists Feed, and other sources.

Science-art is becoming an increasingly popular form of science communication and entertainment. Drawing from fine art, laboratory work, scientific illustration, concept art and more, watch how artists spread scientific literacy and play with the inspiring concepts in science. ?Doing the Scumble posts, I hope to connect artists with each other, and expose their work to a wider audience. ?Remember, a lot of these artists are available for commissions and have online shops for original art and reproductions. ?Why not put some art on your wall that means something more than ?weird for the sake of weird??

Put your feet up, make yourself a cup o? joe and enjoy the science-art on the links above. ?You?ll notice that I?ve flipped the format of the Scumble. ?Kalliopi suggested it, both so the blurb on our homepage doesn?t always read the same way, and I like it for the featured artwork being front and center. Thanks Kalliopi!

Click here for recent Scumbles and ?here for even earlier Scumbles.

Very Affordable Life Insurance | Life Insurance Health

How to find life insurance premiums low ?

In his quest to find an affordable life insurance be sure to examine all relevant information. The life insurance agent and, at times and the life insurance company have conditioned the public to think that the term life insurance is the only type of policy worthy of consideration. The argument is that the deep-rooted term life insurance is cheaper ? policies more affordable life insurance. The minds of people have been conditioned to think premium ? the maximum amount of life insurance for the lowest premium.

When considering purchasing life insurance there are other important factors to look at. We, of course, should consider companies that offer these policies. The fact is they are so transparent ? that is not too difficult to figure out what it is. They offer economic life insurance, but what it really offers is, in some cases, a limited amount of insurance premium too high for people who no longer believe they can still qualify for life insurance. In this case the people who are healthy enough are paying part of the premium for those in poor health.

Another way these companies do is to offer older or sick people with insurance death benefit of an increase. They say you?re selling a $ 10,000 life insurance, but what they are really doing is offering a $ 2000 life insurance policy that will increase each year for 5 or 10 years, at which point you will eventually have total policy $ 10,000. This can be an economic life insurance, because the quantity is limited, but keep in mind what you are paying for it. Upon reaching the point where the amount of death benefit is what you initially decided he wanted ? I would have paid close to that amount in total premiums.

If you tried to buy life insurance in a normal manner and directly from a reputable company that, more often than not, get a better policy for the dollar. Apply the policy, even if your health deteriorates. I have seen many issued in a ?standard? class. In some cases, can be ?rated? ? charged an extra premium ? but in many cases the premiums will be higher, but within reason.

Sometimes, if you buy a policy of permanent value of qualifying with what would be his policy issued may not lead to an additional premium. He also has accumulated cash value in your policy.

Another way of looking at life insurance affordable is to consider the net cost that covers a period of time. This used to be the standard used to measure the cost of life insurance. If you buy a whole life policy and your premium is $ 500. 00 per year and at the end of 20 years has a cash value of $ 10,000.00 then the policy has cost nothing. If you can put the $ 500.00 that may be worth ? can be.

A brilliant person came up with the idea that those extra dollars that would put out for life instead of term, when reversed, produce more than life policy ever could. They took that into consideration and came up with what is called ?interest adjusted? net cost. The result looks pretty good for those who wanted to get the extra money for political life.

Buying insurance affordable life insurance, low cost of living, in a thoughtful and intelligent, therefore, depends on what makes sense for you and how to interpret the phrase ? affordable life insurance.

Kuchar takes lead at Barclays with birdie on 18th

By DOUG FERGUSON

updated 9:48 a.m. ET Aug. 26, 2011

EDISON, N.J. - Matt Kuchar returned to beautiful sunshine and a birdie Friday morning to take the lead at The Barclays.

Kuchar, who won the opening FedEx Cup playoff event last year on a different course, was among 51 players who did not finish the rain-delayed first round. He drove into a greenside bunker on the reachable par-4 18th, blasted out to 3 feet and rapped in his birdie putt for an 8-under 63.

That gave him a one-shot lead over Harrison Frazar and William McGirt, who also had to finish his round in the morning.

McGirt had made seven birdies in an eight-hole stretch when play was halted by darkness Thursday night. The birdies disappeared when he got back to Plainfield, and he bogeyed the 17th before hitting just short of the green on 18 for an easy birdie. Frazar shot his 64 Thursday.

Players had only a half-hour before they headed back out to start the second round.

Even in such perfect weather, the future of the Barclays was gloomy. Hurricane Irene is on a path up the Eastern seaboard, with a forecast for rain and wind starting as early as Saturday and into Sunday.

The hope Friday was for everyone to complete 36 holes to make the cut. Tour officials were meeting Friday morning to figure out how to proceed with the rest of the tournament, with a 54-hole event one possibility.

That would not be unusual, but this is not a typical event.

Only 125 players qualified for the FedEx Cup, and The Barclays is the first of four tournaments that lead to a $10 million bonus for the winner. The top 100 players in the standings advance to next week at the Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston, and there is a feeling that a full, 72-hole tournament should be played.

And because the Boston event doesn't start until Friday ? it traditionally has a Labor Day finish ? one possibility was to finish on Tuesday.

For now, all they can do is play.

Because of the rain ? nearly a three-hour delay Thursday, after some 10 inches of rain over the previous two weeks ? Plainfield was soft and ripe for good scoring. Only 44 players failed to break par in the first round, and the field average was 69.5.

Kuchar won The Barclays last year at Ridgewood.

"It's great being defending champion and coming out with a nice start, 8 under, with some good playing," he said before heading out for his second round. "The conditions were there. I think there are going to be a lot of low scores over the next couple of days."

Some players were in dire need of such good scores.

Padraig Harrington, who narrowly qualified at No. 124 in the standings, opened with a 65. That counts as his best score of the year. The 65 he shot in the opening round at Abu Dhabi ended with disqualification when it was deemed through high-definition TV that his ball had moved ever so slightly while addressing a putt.

Ernie Els, who was at No. 118, opened with a 68. Els is among five players who have reached the FedEx Cup finale at the Tour Championship every year since this format began in 2007.

Phil Mickelson had a disappointing end to his round of 67, even though he made birdie. The tees are moved up this week on the 18th hole, making it play about 285 yards up the hill with a slight bend to the left. Mickelson hammered a tee shot that settled about 6 feet away, but he missed the putt and settled for a birdie.

These days, most everyone is familiar with an autoresponder, although many don't know why they are beneficial to businesses. If you aren't familiar with autoresponders, you would probably find yourself amazed with them. An autoresponder can help your business by automatically emailing your clients and customers with a preset message that will help to increase your sales.

An autoresponder can help your list of clients grow, even send each one of them their own personalized email message. If you choose, you can also follow up each individual email with repeated emails, varying the content whenever you wish. These programs will also allow you to keep track of conversations, and send out broadcast email messages whenever you have news or new products to offer your clients.

As research in the past has shown, personalized email from autoresponders is a great way to boost your business. When you send a personalized email to one of your clients, the autoresponder by can address him or her by their name - which always makes a customer take notice. While you could do this yourself using traditional email, it could take you a few hours if you have a long list of customers.

Autoresponders make sending personalized email a snap. All you need to do is set up your email template, then select where you like the name to go. You can add everyone in your customer list to the autoresponder, which makes sending emails a snap. Once you have everything ready to go, all you need to do is send out the emails with one simple click. Best of all - you don't have to set it up again when you need to send out broadcast messages.

Although there are some people who will buy products after one or two emails, most people require about seven or eight emails before they will purchase anything. Autoresponders can really help you there, as they will do all of the emailing for you. You don't have to keep sending manual emails or anything like that. All you need to do is set up the email address, type in your preset message, and then feel free to send it as many times as you like.

Through the use of an autoresponder you can really boost your business. If you run an Internet marketing business, this tool will prove to be invaluable. You can spend less time sending messages - and more time doing what you enjoy. If you've never tried an autoresponder before, you owe it yourself to check out everything they will do for you and your business. Online businesses can get a lot of emails on a daily basis - which is where the autoresponder will really start to shine and show you just how great of an asset it really is.

Writing | Tips On Public Speaking - Selecting Your Topic :: By Tim ...

Some speeches are predetermined by the event in which you are participating. Typically this would be a conference presentation with your contribution being a very specific part of the whole. In that case the choice of topic is made for you and it is likely that you are speaking because of your expertise in that field. However, the person who wishes to make a profit at public speaking will choose topics and market these speeches. In this case therefore the choice of topic is made by the individual.

How to you make that choice? Here are some tips to narrow it down.

A topic about which you know a lot is a natural choice. You will feel much more relaxed and confident talking on something that is familiar to you rather than browsing magazines and selecting a topic about which you know little or nothing.

Choose a topic you are interested in discussing. You may know a lot about certain topics but they do not interest you. Avoid these. If you are not interested it is unlikely that you can interest your audience in them. It does not have to widely known. An expert could make a speech about the life of an earth worm interesting.

Choose a topic that you can make interesting or informative to your audience. It in not necessary for a successful speech for your audience to be interested in your topic at the beginning of your speech but they certainly should be by the end.. As a skilled public speaker you should be able to achieve this.. You are interested so communicate that interest and enthusiasm to them. This usually takes the form of giving them information that they previously did not have.

Choose a topic that suits the requirements of the assignment. Be sure that you know the type of speech, the time constraints and any other requirements of the organisers who book you. Your speech must be aligned to those requirements.

The foregoing points are broad. After considering other data you should now be able to more accurately target your topic..

Consider some situational factors

Familiarity. Will your audience be familiar with any information that will help you select your topic? Remember finding common ground is the quickest and easiest way to establish empathy with your audience.

Current events. Can you use a topical item from the news that is particularly pertinent to your audience? However, unless you are planning a political speech do not be overly controversial. You do not want to alienate half your audience.

Audience apathy. This is the challenge that a more experienced public speaker will relish. Do you want to persuade your audience to a view that you feel strongly but about which they are apathetic.?

Time limits. Avoid a topic that is so broad and deep that you can only skim the surface in the time allotted to you.. If you spread your material too thinly the audience will realise this even if they cannot quite analyse the reason for their dissatisfaction. Refine your topic so that you concentrate on just one aspect of it..

Then consider some audience factors

Previous knowledge. What do my audience already know? Common experience. Does the audience have shared experiences? Common interests. Where do my interests and those of my audience meet? Relevant diverse factors. How diverse are my listeners?

You should have written single word answers to each of the above questions as they occurred to you. When you have examined these bullet points you will find the topic and content of your speech emerging..

About Author Tim Ross :

Tim Ross has over the years spoken to groups large and small in locations from the humble to the magnificent on a variety of topics. The lessons in public speaking from these experiences are detailed in his blogs and articles.

(AP) ? Giant statues of Soviet dictators Vladimir Lenin and Josef Stalin. Paintings of enthusiastic socialist laborers. A huge red star that graced Communist Party headquarters.

As Europe marks the 20th anniversary of the Soviet collapse, this nation that's still shaking off its troubled communist legacy is opening a museum dedicated to the totalitarian past.

A debate's raging on whether the museum romanticizes the Soviet era or teaches new generations about its horrors. Other former communist countries like the Czech Republic and Hungary have long had similar museums; the fact it's taken Bulgaria this long to open one is a sign of its fraught transition to democracy.

Pulled out of cellars and warehouses, more than 100 artworks will be put on display in the museum that opens next month in a Sofia suburb, and will showcase a period of Bulgaria's history when art had to be created in line with strict ideological rules.

Along with the statues and busts of communist leaders, there are also oil paintings exalting the supposed "eternal friendship" between Bulgaria and the Soviet Union.

Bulgaria's government recently adopted an ambitious strategy to promote the capital, Sofia, as an attractive culture and travel destination.

Along with the museum of totalitarian art, the initiative also includes a museum of contemporary art and a museum dubbed the Bulgarian Louvre, which is to showcase the best of the country's culture stretching back to antiquity.

"A new generation will emerge, young and pure, which must not be deprived of the history and heritage of its people," said Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov.

He said much of the socialist art goes beyond propaganda.

"Many of the objects here have a high art value," said Rashidov, himself a well-known sculptor and a driver of the project in which the state has invested euro1.5 million ($2.1 million).

The project had been presented for months as a "Museum of Totalitarian Art." Ahead of its opening, however, workers fashioned stone letters on the main wall spelling out its new name: "Museum of Socialist Art."

The sudden switch has some critics complaining of a whitewash carried out by a Bulgarian political elite with roots in the communist past.

"A feature of the Bulgarian transition is that it was organized by the communist nomenclature itself and controlled by the structures of the former secret services," said Andrey Kovachev, a Bulgarian European parliamentarian.

"The history debate was frozen and overshadowed by nostalgia for the repressive dictatorship, driven by its successors."

Asked about the reason for the renaming, museum curator Bisera Yosifova spoke of "emotional extremism" in evaluating the past, and argued the museum contains valuable works by some of the best known painters and sculptors of the time.

"An exhibition of totalitarian artifacts could be staged at some point in the future," she added.

Georgi Lozanov, a media expert, said Bulgaria must have a museum of communism that will tell new generations the story of a period that should never again become reality.

"We are the last country of the former socialist countries which has no such museum," Lozanov said.
