?The wearables industry has emerged as a strong market for HzO. Consumers, soldiers, first responders and sportsmen are among those who now have HzO protecting their wearable devices against all kinds of liquids, from water to sweat to corrosive agents,? said Sergio Leveratto, vice president of global marketing and sales, at HzO. ?Original equipment manufacturers are selecting HzO for current and future products because of the superiority and reliability of our WaterBlock technology.?

HzO's proprietary WaterBlock technology is a thin film surface coating applied inside a device, creating a protective barrier. Using a chemical vapor deposition process, HzO covers vital electronic parts that are often compromised and tarnished by sudden or persistent exposure to corrosives -- including water, humidity and other liquids ? as well as contaminating particles.

HzO product demonstrations and information will be available during both conferences:

  • Wearable Technologies Conference 2013: Held at San Francisco's Fort Mason Center, conference participants can find HzO in the Golden Gate Room on both days of the event.
  • Wearable Tech Expo 2013: HzO is a Gold Sponsor and will be located at Table Four of the Wearable Tech Expo at New York City's Kimmel Center. The company will also participate in the Wearable Tech Demo Forum on Weds. at 4:00 p.m., as well as the Smart Materials panel on Thurs. at 2:35 p.m.
HzO works with large and small brands, design firms and manufacturers to add WaterBlock protection to products before they hit the market. Launched 18 months ago, HzO is now featured in multiple devices, including: the Tag Heuer Racer Sub Nano Luxury Android smartphone, the LaiPac S911 Bracelet Locator,?the Life Beacon Medical Alert Device and the NavELite Wrist Compass. NavELite wrist compasses with WaterBlock are purchased 9 times out of 10 over un-coated models. For more information about WaterBlock technology and its application process, visit www.hzoinside.com.

Moto X's camera UI leaks, reveals swipe-driven UI and slow motion mode

Moto X camera UI

We learned a few things about the Moto X's camera interface in that leaked Rogers promo video, but we didn't learn everything. Android Police is more than willing to fill in those blanks by posting screen captures that reportedly show Motorola's new camera software in action. The images suggest a stripped-down, swipe-driven UI reminiscent of a Google Play Edition phone, but with an extra bit of polish. In addition to the flick-based launching and tap-to-hold burst shooting that we've seen, the Moto X depends heavily on a hidden settings carousel with a few features above and beyond stock Android, such a slow motion mode. While the screenshots say little about the cameras themselves, it's reasonable to suspect that we'll learn more about those within a few days.

Mobile manners: 11 dos and don'ts for cellphone users

Washington: Cellphones are ubiquitous and research shows that although most users think they have good mobile manners, many people report being irritated or annoyed by the use of the phones in public places.

Clearly there's a lack of understanding of what is and isn't acceptable in terms of cellphone etiquette.

Following is a list of do's and don'ts:

Mobile manners: 11 dos and don\'ts for cellphone users

Most users think they have good mobile manners, but they don't. A quick guide to cellphone etiquette.

1. Do respect those who are with you. When you're engaged face-to-face with others, either in a meeting or a conversation, give them your complete and undivided attention. Avoid texting or taking calls. If a call is important, apologise and ask permission before accepting it.

2. Don't yell. The average person talks three times louder on a cellphone than they do in a face-to-face conversation. Always be mindful of your volume.

3. Do be a good dining companion. No one wants to be a captive audience to a third-party cellphone conversation, or to sit in silence while their dining companion texts with someone. Always silence and store your phone before being seated. Never put your mobile phone on the table.

4. Don't ignore universal quiet zones such as the theatre, religious places, the library, your daughter's dance recital and funerals.

5. Do let voicemail do its job. When you're in the company of others, let voicemail handle non-urgent calls.

6. Don't make wait staff wait. Whether it's your turn in line or time to order at the table, always make yourself available to the server. Making servers and other patrons wait for you to finish a personal phone call is never acceptable. If the call is important, step away from the table or get out of line.

7. Don't text and drive. There is no message that is so important.

8. Do keep arguments under wraps. Nobody can hear the person on the other end. All they are aware of is a one-sided screaming match a few feet away.

9. Don't forget to filter your language. A rule of thumb: If you wouldn't walk through a busy public place with a particular word or comment printed on your T-shirt, don't use it in cellphone conversations.

10. Do respect the personal space of others. When you must use your phone in public, try to keep at least 10 feet (three metres) between you and others.

11. Do exercise good international calling behaviour. The rules of cellphone etiquette vary from country to country.

Good cellphone etiquette is similar to common courtesy. Conversations and text exchanges have a tendency to distract people from what's happening in front of them. Cellphone users should be thoughtful, courteous and respect the people around them.

Lady Antebellum singer, drummer welcome baby

Celebs

Talk about making beautiful music together: Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott confirmed via Twitter (and via rep to Us Weekly) on Monday that she and husband/band drummer Chris Tyrrell are the proud new parents of a baby girl.

"She's here, and we are in HEAVEN!!!" tweeted Scott, who wed Tyrrell on Jan. 7, 2012. "Eisele Kaye, our beautiful angel, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!"

This wasn't the first mention of the newest member of the family via Twitter. Scott, 27, has been keeping fans up to date about her pregnancy for months. Back in December, she tweeted, "Chris & I are excited to announce that our Christmas gift has arrived a little early this year! We are having a BABY! We feel so blessed!!!"

In early July, she tweeted a photo of the baby's car seat, with a stuffed giraffe riding in the baby's place, noting she was trying to figure out how to put it into her car. "Thankfully," she noted, "I have time to figure it out."

But not forever! Soon, they'll be putting that seat to good use.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder at center of Detroit bankruptcy

detroit

Seven governors came and went during the decades-long decay of Michigan's largest city that culminated with a humiliating collapse into financial ruin.

It's the eighth, former business executive and relative political novice Rick Snyder, who is aggressively tying his legacy to the prospects of a Detroit turnaround.

When he took office, Snyder pushed for more powers for the state to intervene in distressed cities and schools. After voters repealed the law last November, he ignored critics and signed another one. He also hired the city's turnaround specialist and, nearly four months later, blessed the request to file for bankruptcy.

For the man with the "one tough nerd" moniker, it's the latest bold decision in a 2 ?-year stretch that's remarkable for the sheer breadth and pace at which Snyder has moved. He's again in the national spotlight just a half-year after making Michigan ? the bastion of the auto industry and organized labor ? a right-to-work state, a move that pollsters say led to a drop in his approval ratings.

Though the impact of the bankruptcy filing on Snyder's 2014 re-election may be difficult to predict, it's still a legacy definer that's being watched not only in Michigan but also by Wall Street and other elected officials across the country.

Snyder, a former venture capitalist and computer company CEO, has no known presidential aspirations.

"I don't spend time dwelling on my legacy. I just try to do my job well," the Republican governor told The Associated Press in an interview. "That's relentless positive action. No blame, no credit. Just simply solve the problem.

"Here was a problem 60 years in the making. The can was being kicked down the road for far too long. It was time to say enough was enough. Let's stop, let's stabilize, let's grow."

Detroit's bankruptcy could last at least through summer or fall 2014, when Snyder is expected to ask voters for another term.

"I deeply respect the citizens of Detroit," Snyder said. "They along with the other 9 million people in our state hired me to do this job. They're my customers. This was a tough step, a difficult decision, but it's the right decision."

The first-term governor, perhaps more than any other state's chief executive, hasn't been afraid to confront mounting retiree pension and health care costs hampering state and city budgets. He's done that mainly by signing laws making public workers pay more of their health costs, ending retiree health care for new hires and enticing teachers to contribute more toward their future pensions.

But the stakes could be higher with the Detroit intervention under Michigan's emergency manager law.

Eric Scorsone, a Michigan State University economist and expert on government finances, said while Snyder helped revise the law to make it one of the toughest in the country, bankruptcy likely was inevitable even under the old law ? unless creditors had voluntarily agreed to accept far less than what they're owed.

"Other governors may have taken different approaches. But even under the old law, if we had a different governor, it's pretty obvious something would have had to be done," he said.

Scorsone said many other U.S. cities have issues similar to Detroit, though not on the same scale. Other states will be watching to see what happens in part because Snyder ? not local elected officials ? is taking responsibility for improving public safety and other basic needs, he said.

"I think it's aggressive in the sense that most states don't intervene in local affairs to the same extent," Scorsone said.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, a Democrat who lost to Snyder in the 2010 election, said Snyder "definitely" deserves credit if Detroit emerges in better shape, especially in providing everyday services.

"It's bold and decisive. You've got to give him credit, however late," Bernero said, adding that Snyder should have intervened in Detroit within three months of taking office in 2011.

"There was a sense of inevitability about this bankruptcy," Bernero said. "I would have moved quicker with an emergency manager. The ship couldn't right itself. Why prolong the agony? Lance the boil and move on."

On Meet the Press Sunday, former Gov. Jennifer Granholm noted the connection between Detroit the city and Detroit, the heart of the U.S. auto industry.

?The city of Detroit is the poster child for the desindustrialization of America,? Granholm said. ?Since 1950, which was the heyday of Detroit?s burgeoning auto industry, there were almost 300,000 automotive or manufacturing jobs in the city. Today, it?s 27,000. Ninety percent decline in good paying manufacturing jobs.?

Snyder first struck a consent agreement in April 2012 with the Democratic-led city to wipe out its enormous budget deficit and mountainous debt but appointed Kevyn Orr as emergency manager after that didn't work.

Steven Rattner, who was chief adviser to President Barack Obama's auto bailout task force, said from his detached vantage point in New York, Snyder "has handled this thing quite well."

While acknowledging the political difficulties associated with anything viewed as a bailout, Rattner questioned why the state and possibly the federal government aren't offering Detroit a rescue package.

"It's not logical for there to be political fallout from putting Detroit in bankruptcy because there's no other alternative to that," Rattner said. "The question people can ask is whether Snyder is offering all the help the state of Michigan can offer. ... These are tough politics either way."

There seems little appetite from either Democrats or Republicans in Washington for a federal rescue of Detroit. Bailing out the city with state money could bring resistance in the Republican-led Legislature and prompt anger from out-state residents concerned about funding their own schools and local services.

"There are so many great things going on in Detroit. We resolve the city government issue, Detroit's really well poised to see outstanding growth take place when people can say there are better services," Snyder said. "We're going to get there."

Rising Gas Prices A Problem For Economy - Business Insider

US fuel prices continue to rise. August NYMEX?gasoline futures price cleared $3 a couple of days ago and is now at the highest level for 2013.

This introduces two new challenges for the US economy:

    1. Fuel prices tend to influence consumer sentiment and spending. The sentiment is not necessarily linked to how much consumers actually spend on fuel.

Rather, it's connected to the psychology of seeing a sudden spike in this index that most Americans see on a daily basis.

And improvements in US consumer sentiment have already stalled recently.

    From Bloomberg:

The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary index of consumer sentiment decreased to 83.9 in July from 84.1 the month prior, today?s report showed. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey called for a gain to 84.7. The gauge reached an almost six-year high of 84.5 in May. ?The recent increases in mortgage rates and prices at the gas pump may have restrained consumers? views on the economy in the next six months.

This result is supported by another indicator, the Gallup U.S. Economic Confidence Index.

Gallup: - ... U.S. Economic Confidence Index was -9 for the week ending July 7, on par with scores from the past month. The index has been slightly lower since reaching a five-year weekly high of -3 in late May and early June. Still, confidence has generally improved from levels Gallup has measured over the past five years.

The relatively lower levels of confidence in June and early July may be a result of more volatility in U.S. stock prices and a stubborn unemployment rate.

While consumer confidence remains near post-recession highs, the recent slowdown in improvements could become exacerbated by rising fuel costs in July.

    2. Today we've seen the producer price index unexpectedly move up due to higher energy costs.

USA Today: - A big jump in gasoline prices pushed wholesale inflation up in June by the largest amount in nine months. But underlying inflation showed only a modest gain.?

Wholesale prices rose 0.8% in June compared with May when prices had risen 0.5%, the Labor Department reported Friday. It was the biggest gain since a 1% jump in September and was driven by a 7.2% surge in gasoline prices.

Keep in mind they are talking about June gasoline prices in this report. Now take a look at the chart above and compare it to the levels for July. It doesn't bode well for the July headline PPI number, which could begin to eat into corporate margins.

Walmart Canada Online-Only Blowout: Huge Savings On Baby Items

Walmart Canada Online Only Blowout: Huge Savings On Baby Items

Walmart is having an online-only sale on baby items including cribs and diapers. If you are expecting, check out the awesome deals at Walmart online.

Walk into any baby furniture store and you?ll see a huge array of gorgeous cribs, and your emotions will get the best of you imagining that crib in your baby?s nursery. Take a look at the price tag of upwards of $1000 or more and your emotions might turn to defeat, anger or disgust. Babies are crazy expensive, and one way to save is not to buy the solid oak sleigh crib. As long as it is a good quality, durable crib, your baby will do just fine in it. All three of my boys slept in a hand-me-down crib, which originally cost my brother-in-law a pretty penny for his one child. It fell apart towards the end of my third child?s tenure in it, which tells you money doesn?t always ensure durability.

This Stork Craft Coventry fixed side convertible crib in cognac looks good and has the ability to be a day bed or toddler bed as well. Guess how much? Only $80! Was $137.

Totally a basic white crib, but if you are a minimalist or have some cute bedding, make baby the focus of the room, not the crib, and pay only $40 for this Stork Craft Erin fixed side crib in white. Was $77.

Diapers are pretty much a necessity in the first few years of baby?s life, unless you practice elimination communication, which I would love to have done, but no way had the willpower. Huggies are a good brand of diapers, although in my opinion, better for girls and kids who are ?light pee-ers?. Get over $3 off depending on size and pay only $25 for a large box.

BAGHDAD - Insurgents in Iraq launched two days of bloody assaults at the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that killed at least 31 people, most of them members of the security forces serving in restive Sunni-dominated areas, authorities said Thursday.

The killings are the latest in a wave of bloodshed that has claimed the lives of more than 2,600 people since the start of April. The months-long eruption of violence ? Iraq's worst in half a decade ? is raising fears the country is again returning to the brink of a civil war pitting its Sunni and Shiite Muslim sects against one another.

The deadliest attack happened at sundown Wednesday as Iraqis were marking the end of the first day of Ramadan fasting, though it took authorities time to learn of the killing and they only provided details the following morning.

Gunmen launched their assault on an army checkpoint near Barwana, which lies across the Euphrates River from the town of Haditha, about 220 kilometres (140 miles) northwest of Baghdad in the largely Sunni province of Anbar. Barwana's mayor, Meyasser Abdul-Mohsin, said three soldiers were killed and four were wounded in that attack.

The attackers then made their way to a trailer not far away that is used by special oil industry police assigned to protect a nearby pipeline. The men inside were sitting down to have the iftar meal that breaks the daytime Ramadan fast at sunset, Abdul-Mohsin said.

The gunmen shot up the trailer and then set it on fire before making their getaway, the mayor said. Eleven police there were left dead, with some of their bodies badly burned and making them difficult to identify, he said.

A security official in nearby Haditha gave a similar account and confirmed the death toll. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

"This is a crime carried out by terrorists during iftar on the first day of Ramadan," Abdul-Mohsin said. "It just proves what a cowardly act it is."

Exxon Mobil Corp., BP PLC and other international oil companies have flocked to Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion to capitalize on Iraq's vast oil wealth. The country is now the second-largest producer in OPEC, after Saudi Arabia. Oil revenues account for 95 per cent of the country's budget.

    Insurgents unleashed more attacks Thursday.

A police station in Anbar's provincial capital Ramadi came under attack in the morning in an assault that left two policemen dead, provincial council member councilman Talib Hamadi and deputy provincial governor Dhari Arkan said. Arkan said gunmen opened fire on the police station after a car bomb exploded nearby. Ramadi is 115 kilometres (70 miles) west of Baghdad.

Militants turned their sights on the local police headquarters in the nearby city of Fallujah, also in Anbar province, later in the day.

A car bomb explosion kicked off that attack. Then gunmen exchanged fire with police as other militants launched mortar rounds at the facility. Another attacker then drove an explosives-laden car into the police post.

By the time it was all over, seven police officers were killed and 17 other people were wounded, all but two of them police, according to police and hospital officials.

A roadside bomb later exploded in central Fallujah, killing a police officer and wounding two others.

Anbar is a vast Sunni-dominated province west of Baghdad and bordering Syria. It has been the centre of months of protests by Iraq's minority Sunnis over what they believe is second-class treatment by the Shiite-dominated government. Sunni militant groups have tried to tap into that anger and link their cause with that of the protesters.

A car bomb rocked Baghdad's commercial district of Karradah late Thursday afternoon, killing two police officers and two civilians, police and health officials said. They said another 13 were wounded.

Insurgents also struck in the volatile city of Mosul, 360 kilometres (225 miles) northwest of the capital. Gunmen in speeding cars there shot and killed an off-duty solider and a civilian in two separate attacks, police and health officials said. Another policeman was killed when a roadside bomb hit a police patrol in the city.

Authorities provided details of the Fallujah, Baghdad and Mosul attacks on condition of anonymity because they weren't allowed to brief reporters.

Elsewhere, a parked car bomb went off Thursday morning near a courthouse in the northern city of Tuz Khormato, wounding 30 people, mayor Shalal Abdool said. Tuz Khormato sits in a band of territory contested by Arabs, Kurds and Turkomen about 200 kilometres (125 miles) north of Baghdad.

Another parked car bomb exploded in a village outside the nearby ethnically disputed city of Kirkuk, wounding seven civilians, provincial police chief Maj. Gen. Jamal Tahir said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the series of attacks. Sunni militants, including al-Qaida's Iraq arm, frequently target security forces and the country's vital oil infrastructure in an effort to undermine the Shiite-led government.

Patriots' Dennard accused of DUI in Nebraska

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) ? Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested and accused of drunk driving Thursday in Nebraska while on probation for assaulting a police officer, the second New England player to get in serious legal trouble this summer.

Dennard's early-morning arrest in Lincoln, Neb., where he was a college star for the Cornhuskers, came 15 days after Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder and three days after Patriots owner Robert Kraft said the club will "be looking at our procedures and auditing how we do things" with regard to character reviews.

"The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard's arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident," the team said in a statement.

Dennard's arrest is his second in 15 months. He hasn't served a 30-day jail sentence for the assault outside a Lincoln bar on Apr. 21, 2012. That is scheduled to begin next March. He also was sentenced to two years of probation.

Hernandez, a star tight end, was arrested on June 26 and charged with murder in the killing of Boston semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty. The Patriots cut Hernandez after he was arrested and before the charges were announced.

Dennard and Hernandez both were highly-touted college prospects whose draft stock dropped because of character concerns.

Seven days after being charged with assault, Dennard was drafted in the seventh round last year out of Nebraska by the Patriots. They drafted Hernandez in the fourth round in 2010 after he violated the substance abuse policy at Florida.

"If this stuff is true, then I've been duped and our whole organization has been duped," Kraft said Monday of the case involving Hernandez.

The team did not respond to a request Thursday for Kraft's reaction to Dennard's arrest.

The legal issues are bound to hover over the opening of training camp on July 25. Coach Bill Belichick rarely comments on such matters and instructs his players to do the same.

Belichick has sometimes signed players who had troubles elsewhere if he felt they could help the team win, hoping his disciplined approach and leaders such as Tom Brady and Vince Wilfork and now-retired Patriots including Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel could keep them in line.

Results have been mixed. Running back Corey Dillon and wide receiver Randy Moss, disgruntled on their previous teams, avoided off-field problems with the Patriots and were productive for several seasons. Chad Johnson, then known as Chad Ochocinco, caught just 15 passes in his only season with the Patriots in 2011 but caused no off-field distractions.

Dennard became a starter at cornerback in the seventh game of his rookie season. The other starter, Aqib Talib, was obtained from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Nov. 1 then signed a one-year contract on March 16. He missed his first game with the Patriots while completing a four-game suspension imposed by the NFL for violating its policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Talib had been suspended without pay for the 2010 opener and fined one additional game check for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy. That followed an altercation with a St. Petersburg cab driver during training camp in 2009. He also had charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Texas dropped a week before he was due to be tried for allegedly firing a gun at his sister's boyfriend.

On Thursday, Dennard was pulled over while driving just before 2 a.m. and failed a field sobriety test, police said. A phone listing for Dennard couldn't be found.

Police spokeswoman Katie Flood said he was taken to a detoxification center but not jailed. He also was accused of refusing a chemical test and a driving infraction.

She said a final decision on the charges likely will be made by the Lincoln City Attorney's Office before the Aug. 12 court date assigned to Dennard. Assistant city prosecutor John McQuinn said his office had not yet received the citation against Dennard from police.

The Patriots' first preseason game is scheduled for Aug. 9 at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Terry Dougherty, Dennard's attorney in the assault case, said in April that he would ask Lancaster County District Judge Stephanie Stacy to suspend the 30-day sentence if Dennard complied with the terms of his probation over the subsequent 11 months. Stacy said then that she would consider such a motion.

It's unclear whether prosecutors will move to have Dennard's probation revoked. Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly didn't immediately return a message.

Dennard's arrest is the latest off-field incident involving a Patriots player while he was with them or before they obtained him. Among the others:

? Brandon Meriweather, a safety drafted in the first round in 2007 from Miami, fired a gun at an assailant who had shot Dolphins backup safety Willie Cooper outside the house the two players shared with another teammate, police said. Meriweather wasn't charged and police said he used the gun legally.

? Willie Andrews, a defensive back drafted in the seventh round in 2006 from Baylor, was cut by the Patriots after being arrested twice following the 2007 season. The first arrest was for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute two days after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.

? Nick Kaczur, an offensive tackle drafted in the third round in 2005 from Toledo, pleaded guilty in July 2008 to speeding in a deal with prosecutors and was ordered to pay $355 in fines and fees. He originally was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, after being pulled over by state troopers near Utica, N.Y.

? Albert Haynesworth, a defensive tackle obtained in a trade on July 29, 2011, pleaded no contest the following month to a charge of simple assault in a case in which he was accused of touching a waitress' breast at a Washington, D.C., hotel.

Dolph Ziggler def. Antonio Cesaro by disqualification

Before he takes on?Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Title this Sunday, The Showoff had to get through Antonio Cesaro on WWE Main Event. The newest ?Real American? came at Ziggler with plenty of firepower on ION Television, not to mention the fact that he had the outspoken?Zeb Colter and?Jack Swagger in his corner.

While Colter?s pre-match rant was focused on Cesaro?s and Swagger?s participation in the World Title Contract Money in the Bank Ladder Match, once the bell rang, Cesaro was focused solely on picking The Showoff apart.

Colter?s charge used his impressive strength to control the early goings of the bout, starting out by wrenching Ziggler?s fingers before moving on to his wrist and then his elbow. The Showoff was able to wrestle free from Cesaro?s grasp on several occasions, but the ?Real American? used his muscle to go back on the offensive.

Money in the Bank Preview:?Ziggler vs. Del Rio | World Heavyweight Title Contract Ladder Match

Realizing he was outmatched in terms of power, Ziggler changed up his game plan, using his speed and finesse to stay one step ahead of Cesaro. Though he struggled to keep up with the speedy Showoff, Cesaro eventually caught Ziggler with a gutwrench suplex and a flurry of clubbing blows capped off with a skull-rattling European Uppercut.

Cesaro continued his attack with an unbelievable superplex. Ziggler valiantly battled out of the ?Real American?s? offense and fought off distractions from Colter and Swagger.? The Showoff had the match won after sliding out of a suplex attempt by Cesaro and connecting with the Zig Zag. Unfortunately for Ziggler, Swagger yanked The Showoff out of the ring before the three-count, giving Ziggler a disqualification victory.

Swagger tried to take Ziggler out with the Patriot Lock, but was sent tumbling over the ringside guardrail by The Showoff. Cesaro then tried to take advantage with the Neutralizer when Ziggler crawled back in the ring, but was dumped to the floor for his troubles. Ziggler deftly leapfrogged over Zeb Colter and got out of dodge, one day closer to his title match against Alberto Del Rio on Sunday.

50-Year-Old Assumptions About Muscle Strength Tossed Aside

In standard (boring) writing, you have a topic sentence, followed by supporting sentences. Then you start a new paragraph for a new topic.

Also, the aforementioned sentences are constructed with words, which start with a letter, followed, or not, by some more. Then you end that word with a space so you can start with the next word.

The exception is that after the last word in the sentence, instead of a space, there's a period.

    Correction: Perry-Timeline story

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? In a July 8 Timeline about Rick Perry's life, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Perry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives representing Denton County. He actually represented Haskell County.

A corrected version of the timeline is below:

Rick Perry had led a charmed political life, never losing an election between 1984 and 2010, despite switching parties and having the state around him shift from faithfully Democratic to fiercely Republican. But the longest-serving governor in Texas history saw his ballot-box fortunes change dramatically with 2011 and his disastrous run for the White House.

    ___

March 4, 1950 ? Born in Paint Creek, a rural farming village north Abilene.

September 1968 ? Arrives at Texas A&M University, becomes a "yell leader;" dreams of being a veterinarian but Perry's science grades steer him instead to flight school. Joins U.S. Air Force upon graduation.

November 1982 ? Marries Anita Thigpen, who Perry first met at an elementary school piano recital. The couple has two adult children; the Perrys became grandparents in June 2013.

November 1984 ? Elected to the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat serving Haskell County in rural West Texas.

September 1989 ? Becomes a Republican mere days after learning he wouldn't be named chairman of the powerful House Calendars Committee.

November 1990 ? Upsets Democratic incumbent Jim Hightower to become Texas Agricultural Commissioner ? with the help of then little-known GOP strategist Karl Rove.

November 1998 ? Tops his former Texas A&M roommate, Democrat John Sharp, to become lieutenant governor. Perry gets backing from then-Gov. George W. Bush, who wanted to leave for the White House but keep the Texas governorship in Republican hands.

December 2000 ? Sworn in as Texas' 47th governor after Bush left to become president.

November 2002 ? Bests Democrat Tony Sanchez, a Laredo oilman and banker, to win his first full-term in office.

November 2006 ? Captures just 39 percent of the vote, but it's enough to retain his post, besting a Democratic challenger and two independents.

March 2010 ? Easily tops U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in Texas' GOP gubernatorial primary, dominating what was supposed to be a bruising battle between the state's top Republicans.

February 2010 ? Produces a laser-sited pistol from his running shorts and shoots a coyote he says was menacing his daughter's dog while jogging in rural Austin.

August 2010 ? Replies: "I have no intention to go to Washington, D.C." when asked during a fundraiser at a barbecue restaurant if he's planning to run for president in 2012.

November 2010 ? Easily beats Democrat Bill White to win an unprecedented third gubernatorial term.

August 13, 2011 ? Announces in South Carolina that he will run for president.

Sept. 22, 2011 ? Still a front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, Perry says "I don't think you have a heart" of those who oppose Texas' policy of offering in-state college tuition to the children of illegal immigrants. His popularity slips and never recovers.

Nov. 9, 2011 ? Forgets the third of three federal departments he has promised to shutter if elected during a Republican debate in Rochester, Mich. His "Oops" moment is much of America's lasting image of Perry.

Jan. 19, 2012 ? Drops out of the presidential race in South Carolina, two days before the state's primary. Perry says he's "neither discouraged nor disenchanted" but was "highly rewarded" by his experience.

Jan. 13, 2013 ? Tells a Dallas TV station that he and popular fellow Republican and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott have a gentlemen's agreement not run against each other for governor. Abbott never confirms such a deal.

June 26, 2013 ? Convenes a second special legislative session after a 12-plus hour filibuster by Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis and hundreds of shouting protesters run out a midnight deadline to approve sweeping new restrictions on abortion during the first special session that ended June 25.

    July 8, 2013 ? Announces in San Antonio he won't seek re-election.

Procession brings home fallen Ariz. firefighters

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) ? A somber caravan of 19 white hearses carrying the bodies of 19 wildland firefighters has arrived at its final destination in the Arizona mountain community of Prescott.

The procession began hours earlier Sunday at a coroner's office in Phoenix and drove 125 miles through the small town where the firefighters died last week in a wildfire.

Hundreds of firefighters, police and everyday people from across the state stood patiently in triple-digit temperatures in Phoenix, lined freeway overpasses with American flags and flooded the small streets of downtown Prescott to pay their respects.

The crew had been working to build a protection line between the lightning-caused blaze and Yarnell when winds shifted suddenly. The fire hooked around the firefighters and cut off their access to a safety zone.

Part-Time Law Jobs Pay Full Time Incomes

sheldon silver law job, lawfuelPart-time law work may pay well for some, but for members of New York?s State Legislature it can earn people like Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver (pictured) up to $450,000 a year.

According to financial dislosure filings released this week under the state?s new ethics law, part time work with law firms has been a major earner for several legislators.

Silver works part time for the Manhattan personal injury law firm Weitz & Luxenberg the asbestos and mesothelioma lawsuit law firm and the new ethics law requires incomes to be disclosed within a range and without the previous redactions.

Mr. Silver, a Manhattan Democrat who has been speaker since 1994, has long been known to work at Weitz & Luxenberg, though his actual job and pay have long been shrouded in mystery.

His filing said that his job consisted of ?general practice of law with emphasis on representation of individual clients and personal injury actions,? and his title is of counsel. He reported an ample fortune on his new filing, including 2012 income for him and his wife of at least $763,000 and potentially more than $1.1 million, including his legislative salary of $121,000.

Mr. Silver also has an investment portfolio that was worth $778,000 to $2 million at the end of last year, according to his filing, and included blue chips like Oracle and Disney.Mr. Silver also reported deferred compensation plans and trusts that hold about $1.8 million to $2.3 million. A portion of his income last year came from securities sales, including a sale of Ford stock, which brought income of at least $150,000.

He also had an outstanding loan of at least $500,000 that he extended to Counsel Financial, a company to which he has lent money before, which helps finance small law firms that specialize in personal injury lawsuits. Mr. Silver and his wife also earned interest income of at least $100,000 last year from Counsel.Mr. Silver was one of a number of lawmakers who earned outside income practicing law.

The Republican leader in the Senate, Dean G. Skelos of Long Island, reported law firm earnings of $150,000 to $250,000. He works for the Long Island law firm Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, and described his work as general law practice that included civil litigation and work related to real estate, health care and corporate matters.

    OS X Mavericks preview: Calendar

    OS X Mavericks preview: Calendar

OS X Mavericks' Calendar gets a clean, streamlined look that makes it easier than ever to figure out what you're doing. Calendar knows where you're going and how long it'll take to get there, too, so you'll never be late for another appointment.

While OS X Mavericks' look and feel won't change quite as radically as iOS 7's when it debuts this fall, there are some welcome changes for users who aren't fond of skeuomorphic design elements. Calendar is getting a nice facelift in Mavericks and some new functionality too. We got a bit of a preview during the WWDC 2013 keynote, and now we've got a bit more info to share with you.

First of all, those stubborn artifacts of a physical desktop calendar are gone - there are no more torn page fragments at the top of the calendar and the title bar has a flatter appearance. "Streamlined" is the word Apple uses to describe it, and that's accurate: It looks cleaner.

"Absolutely no virtual cows were harmed in the making of this user interface," joked Apple senior vice president of Software Engineering Craig Federighi, when he unveiled the new Calendar at the WWDC keynote.

From the top down, the next obvious change is the placement of the navigation buttons and the date - they've been reversed in weekly, monthly, and yearly views, to give you a clearer visual cue to show what time period you're looking at.

Also gone is the one pixel-wide table grid that's used in Mountain Lion's Calendar for Week, Month and Year layouts. Days in Mavericks are instead separated with white space, with a one-pixel border to separate them vertically. The net result is a cleaner, less cluttered look.

Continuous scrolling is a new feature in Mavericks Calendar. In the monthly view, this means that you can scroll vertically from week to week (the current week gets a colored horizontal line across the top to help you return to it quickly; you can also just click the Today button). In Mountain Lion Calendar, you can horizontally scroll, in weekly or daily views. The scrolling in daily mode is abrupt, replacing each day's events as you scroll; weekly will snap to the next week's events. Now it's smoother and more continuous.

The new look and feel of Calendar will be a welcome change for users who are increasingly accustomed to gesture-based controls for all aspects of the OS X interface, but Calendar gets some really functional enhancements, too. The Inspector is where you'll see the greatest changes.

Many of us now receiving information about social events through friends and family linked through Facebook. OS X Mavericks lets you connect to your Facebook account, and if you've said yes to events you've learned about through Facebook, they'll be displayed on a separate Facebook Events calendar.

The Maps app is coming to OS X, and Calendar's Inspector now ties into that data to provide you with a small map showing your meeting location. That's only a thumbnail, though, so if you need walking or driving directions, you can click on the image and the Maps app will automatically open and plot the way.

What's more, Calendar automatically pads your events with travel time, so you can be sure to have enough time to get to where you're going. It also ties in to weather information so you can see how you'll need to dress. The Inspector also supports autocompletion of fields to save you typing.

OS X Mavericks is still a moving target which won't ship until the fall, so we'll see if Apple introduces any new features to Calendar between now and then. But even if nothing else happens, these changes will be welcome improvements for users who rely on Apple's calendaring application to manage their schedules.

Obama, Bush honor victims of bin Laden's opening salvo

U.S. President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush attend a memorial Tuesday for the victims of the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombing in Dar es Salaam.

By Ian Johnston, Staff Writer, NBC News

President Barack Obama and his predecessor George W. Bush met in an African capital Tuesday to honor the victims of Osama bin Laden?s opening salvo in his war against America.

The near-simultaneous bombings at two U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 claimed the lives of 224 people, including 12 Americans.

In the words of then President Bill Clinton, the U.S. had lost ?12 proud sons and daughters who perished half a world away, but never left America behind, who carried with them ? the ideals for which America stands.?

A few months before the attacks in August 1998, bin Laden had warned his war would "inevitably move ... to American soil." U.S. embassies are American territory according to international law.

Nearly 15 years later, the attacks brought together Obama and Bush on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

President Obama was warmly greeted by throngs in Tanzania, but his message of trade was overshadowed by other events around the world.

In a brief ceremony, Obama and Bush walked over to a memorial on a large piece of rock near the embassy?s entrance under a big tree. A new embassy was built in 2003.

A U.S. Marine laid the wreath as the two presidents stood for a moment of silence. They did not make any public remarks, but then spoke to survivors and relatives of those who died.

The stone is inscribed with the names of the 10 Tanzanians who died. More than 85 Americans and Tanzanians were also injured in the attack.

A memorial by the embassy community is also held every August 7, the anniversary of the attacks. Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have previously visited the embassy and laid wreaths at the memorial stone.

Despite the devastation caused by the bombing, 15 Tanzanian embassy staff who survived still work there today.

And the number of American staff there has grown by 57 percent since 2009.

The attack prompted Clinton to attempt to kill bin Laden with a missile strike, Bush continued efforts to find bin Laden, who was finally slain in 2011 while Obama was in office.

Bush was in Dar es Salaam with his wife Laura for The Bush Center?s two-day African First Ladies Summit in Tanzania.

At a meeting earlier Tuesday, Laura Bush shared a platform with Michelle Obama and spoke of the overriding need for freedom ? freedom not only from tyranny but also in education, economics and other areas.

Michelle Obama stressed the importance of education in empowering women.

?I am sitting here now, as First Lady of the United States of America, because of education,? she told the summit, according to The Bush Center's Twitter account.

The Obamas are on the final day of a week-long tour of the continent, visiting Senegal and South Africa.
