A panel of researchers from the Garvan Institute in Sydney, Australia, has revealed following a recent report that it is a protein that makes the already deadly breast cancer more aggressive.
It is being said by the team that the disease?s resistance to varied treatments is also seen because of the same. Chris Ormandy and colleagues have studied the protein dubbed ELF5 for a long period of 10 years and thus concluded the above.
The team warns that the protein only causes the illness to develop in one and turn into a treacherous form. It makes the already-existing tumour to turn into the oestrogen-insensitive type. And cancers usually are unmanageable, when it comes to be cured by anti-oestrogen treatment, since they have high levels of ELF5.
They as a result of carrying the protein become oestrogen receptor negative, says the report. It has been told that in these cases, i. e. amid tissue-culture models of this cancer type that are made numb to such treatment, the ELF5 levels augment notably.
