Local sports digest: California Golden Bears search for starting QB continues

Cal's quarterback competition remained tight after the Golden Bears' second scrimmage of spring camp on Saturday.

"I thought the guys competed, I thought they all made some plays," coach Sonny Dykes said. "Austin [Hinder] and Kyle [Boehm] ran the ball well at times and brought a little something to the table with their ability to run. It was positive to see that. Overall I thought it was a good day."

Zach Kline completed 5-of-6 passes for 88 yards, including a 59-yard connection with Drake Whitehurst and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Darius Powe.

Jared Goff was 5-of-11 for 90 yards with a 36-yard scoring strike to Bryce Treggs on his first throw, and Hinder completed 4-of-8 passes for 54 yards.

Boehm ran one series at quarterback as well as playing wide receiver.

Dykes said Boehm has "earned another shot at quarterback."

Boehm was not listed on the quarterback depth chart released Monday by the team.
