Shale oil boost to world economy
A report from PricewaterhouseCoopers suggests that production of unconventional fuel shale oil could make up to 12 per cent of global oil production by 2035, cutting global oil prices. A poll for the League of Conservation Voters has showed that 65% of Americans want Obama to take "significant steps" to prevent climate change. Another poll conducted for the Natural Resources Defense Council, found that 65% of Americans consider climate change a serious problem and 62%, agreed with Obama's call to act "for the sake of our children".

CryoSat-2 mission reveals major Arctic sea-ice loss
A new scientific paper by an international team of scientists has found that Arctic sea ice volume has declined by 36 percent in the autumn and 9 percent in the winter between 2003 and 2012. The data is the first published measurements from a new satellite which is able to observe the Arctic ice cap in more detail.
