Women's Fitness : A Beginner's Guide to Muay Thai

These days, more and more women practice Muay Thai not only to learn self defense, but to improve their physique as well. It is a highly physical sport which entails a lot of training and body conditioning. With only a couple of sessions, you can already see and feel the difference with your body. This is why a lot of women are so into it nowadays because of the physical benefits that it offers such as weight loss, improved stamina, flexibility and discipline. Interested in trying it out? Well then let me share to you some tips to help you prepare yourself for your first Muay Thai session.

1. Do cardio exercises a couple of weeks before your first Muay Thai session. It is very important to wake up your muscles and have your body get used to being pumped up especially if you're not exercising regularly. Doing cardio work such as running, jogging and biking is not really highly required but of course, having a good cardio training beforehand can really go a long way.

You'll find learning Muay Thai much easier and you won't end up gasping for air every time.

2. Watch Muay Thai videos. There are a lot of videos and other resources online from Youtube to Muay Thai websites. Getting some idea of what the martial art really is makes you learn it faster and understand it more. Besides, it's very important to know what you're getting yourself into. At least you still have time if you want to back out. No, just kidding.

3. Start slowly. Don't be such a show off and try to learn everything in just one session. It is very important to understand the fundamental techniques first and learn how to properly execute them. This way, you can train more efficiently and progressively.

It is best to master the basics before you move on to the more complicated techniques.

4. Be patient and don't give up. Muay Thai is a highly physical sport so it can really be quite intensive and physically demanding. There will always be a point in your training session wherein you want to give up, maybe because you find it too hard or you can't execute the moves properly or you're too exhausted to even lift your arm. All I can say is, don't give up. Results will only come if you're consistent so take it one day at a time, but don't stop. However, it's very important to not push yourself beyond your body's capability.
