Nov 19, Colombo: Executive committee of Sri Lankan university teacher's trade union has decided to hold discussions with the trade union led by the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) to form an alliance to fight for the rights of the public sector employees.
The Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) secretary Terrence Madujith has said that executive committee has decided to have discussions with the Marxist party union National Trade Union Center (NTUC).
FUTA executive committee has discussed actions to be taken regarding an invitation extended in writing by the Chairman of the NTUC, former MP K.D. Lal Kantha.
However, the FUTA did not officially participate in the discussion the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe had with university teachers. FUTA secretary said that they hadn't received an invitation in this regard.
However, several university teachers participated in the discussion with the Opposition Leader who criticized the FUTA for trusting the Rajapaksa government.
Wickremasinghe did not entertain questions from the media at this discussion saying that the discussion was not relevant to the media.
