Taking your New Year?s resolutions seriously: Top three to-dos & how to do them
If you?re the kind of person who doesn?t really take New Year?s resolutions very seriously or just chooses a few obvious ones without really setting forth a plan to make them happen, now?s the time to turn over a new leaf and actually do everything you?ve wanted to do for years.
No more excuses: 2013 is your year to make big changes, test your strength and carry out commitments that will leave your friends and family in shock.
To get started on some of these size-able goals, take a look at the following list of all those things you?ve always wanted to do but haven?t quite accomplished just yet.
Go Back to School
This is a huge one for most people? especially with the downturn in the job market. Going back to school will undoubtedly require sacrifice and hard work, but it?s all worth it for the benefit of developing yourself both as a professional and a person. If you?re not sure what you want to major in yet, or you?re looking for an education that can be practically applied to multiple industries, consider choosing a degree in business management or a similar field for optimum versatility. Such a choice would provide a broad enough application range to enable you to get involved in several fields, which would maximize opportunities in the job market both after graduation and down the road.
Become a Vegetarian
You?ve read all those pamphlets, watched the PETA ad campaigns and still feel a surge of guilt when you walk through the meat aisle at the grocery store, but you have yet to commit to a meat-free lifestyle. Becoming a vegetarian is actually a lot easier than you think, but it takes time and a strong commitment to fully adapt to this new way of living. Start by planning vegetarian alternatives to the meals you eat now. For example, if you have a favorite fast food joint you turn to at least once a week, take a look at their salad menu to help merge your new lifestyle with your old one. There are also tons of great vegetarian blogs out there that provide easy and delicious recipes for non-meat-eaters, so try out a few new dishes. to have new meat-free meal choices to turn to for daily dinners.
Cancel Your Cable
Watching TV is an addicting habit that can quickly turn from an every-now-and-then leisurely activity to an everyday time-sucking dependency. Committing to watching less TV can be difficult when your beautiful big screen and 1,000-channel cable system is always staring you in the face, so now might be the time to cut off your subscription completely. It?s not the easiest thing to do, but you?ll be shocked by how much extra time you have when you don?t spend part of every day watching television. Even though you might cancel your cable subscription, you can still indulge in some at-home entertainment every once in a while by renting movies on the weekends or even turning TV-watching into a social experience by visiting friends and family for special televised programs.
When you feel like you?re stuck in a rut with your life, making a big life change can have a dramatic impact on your outlook and overall well-being. These three major changes will be a challenge, but they each serve the purpose of making you a stronger, smarter and happier person, making these sacrifices more than worth it. If you?re intimidated by everything on the list, start with just one at a time to make these goals more manageable and less stressful.
