Need a last minute gift for your dog or cat? Sometimes the best gifts don?t need wrapping. Here are a few free things your pets will love for the holidays.
What dogs really want
1. Unwrap a belly rub and watch your dog smile. In fact, see if you can get a ?leg? going. Could become your dog?s most memorable holiday ever.
2. Take them for a holiday walk. They need it. They love it. And they will love you for it. Besides, great smells are in the air (and maybe even on the sidewalk) this time of year.
3. Bake some holiday pet treats. Here are some fun recipes for your dog that can be made from ingredients already in your pantry.
4. Make time for play time. You have been busy wrapping gifts so take a few minutes to give your dog the gift of attention. Run around the yard, throw the ball ? anything to get them (and you) moving and smiling. Watch them play bow.
5. Brush them. Going to the groomers is not the same as being brushed and loved by your favorite person. When everyone is focused on their new techno-gadgets, get on the floor and brush your dog. Guaranteed to make them rollover.
What cats really want
1. Scratch your cat?s head. Cats love to be scratched behind the ears, along the sides of their face, and under their chin. See if you can get a ?purr? going.
2. Scratch your cat on the top of the body, right at the spot where it meets the tail. It often makes a sitting feline stand up and ?take notice.?
3. Give them crumpled gift wrap to bat around. Recycle gift wrap into smooshed balls no bigger than a tennis ball. These impromptu toys can keep felines entertained for seconds ? sometimes minutes if you?re lucky.
4. Leave a large, empty paper bag on the floor. When they crawl inside, gently tap your fingers on the bag. They will engage in an imaginary hunt for the creature outside the bag. It?s awesome holiday fun for your cat.
5. Give them a lap to sleep on. Sit down, but act like you really have something else to do because cats are not generally drawn to people just hanging out. They are drawn to busy people and so will determine how much you love them by how long you let them snooze in your lap.
Simply put, you can?t go wrong with giving your pet love and attention. It?s what every dog and cat really wants this holiday season.
